Long-burning NJ warehouse may not have to be razed

AP  Eyewitness NewsELIZABETH, N.J. -- Firefighters have found a surprise after getting a weeklong fire under control in a New Jersey warehouse: The building may not need to be razed.

Elizabeth Fire Chief Thomas McNamara tells The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/u2xBVK ) that about one-third of the five-story, 2 million-square foot building was damaged. But the rest was unaffected in the chemical-fueled blaze.

He says the insurance company is debating whether to demolish the building in an historic industrial area. The fire has been burning since last week, but firefighters say it's now under control. It's not clear when it can be put out entirely.
