AP  Eyewitness NewsSEA GIRT, N.J. -- Thousands of Boy Scouts and troop leaders from across New Jersey have converged on the state's National Guard Training Center in Monmouth County this weekend for what's being billed as the nation's largest scouting event of the year.

The third New Jersey State Police-Boy Scouts of America Camporee features numerous demonstrations by state police troopers and officials, including Superintendent Rick Fuentes.

The youths saw bomb robots, police boats and Army helicopters in action and also took part in various physical challenges - such as rock climbing overseen by guard members - and agility testing.

The youths also received emergency preparedness training to help them earn merit badges as part of the three-day event at the Sea Girt facility, which got under way Friday and will conclude around noon Sunday.
