NJ man faces sentencing in Newark triple slaying

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK -- The third of six defendants in a gruesome triple murder in Newark is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.

A jury convicted Alexander Alfaro on 16 of 17 counts last month.

Alfaro and five other men and boys were charged with the execution-style murders of three college-bound friends in a school playground in August 2007.

Terrance Aeriel, Dashon Harvey and Iofemi Hightower were attending or about to attend Delaware State University. A fourth friend survived being shot and stabbed in the attack.

Two other defendants are serving consecutive life sentences for the murders. Three defendants are jailed awaiting possible trial dates.

The six suspects were caught within two weeks of the murders.

Prosecutors have said the attack was orchestrated by a leader in the violent MS-13 street gang.
