Man walking dog killed in accident

Eyewitness NewsEAST ORANGE, New Jersey (WABC) -- A man out walking his dog was killed and six people have been arrested after an accident in East Orange, New Jersey.

Family members were breaking down at the scene, consoling each other on the sidewalk where 55-year-old Darrol Morris walked his dog every morning.

The same pathway where they both lost their lives on Monday morning.

"Just walking his dog, all he was doing was walking his dog," said the victims brother, Jeffery Morris.

A morning routine that police say put Morris and his shihtszu, Jordan, in the path of a police chase.

Eyewitness News is told East Orange officers were trailing a stolen vehicle along Lincoln street this morning when that car lost control.

Morris and his dog had no time to react as the car drove onto the sidewalk where they were walking, then slammed into a pole and a chain link fence .

The family is upset with police for 'chasing' the car down a residential street.

Morris' family says the victim was a beloved grandfather and a former marine.

The six people who were in the car have been arrested.
