One person is dead and two others were hurt.
The big question is: what was wrong with the driver?
The red plumbing truck slammed into the green minivan with such force that it sliced the van in two, sending one half of it airborne before it landed a hundred feet away into a parking lot."Saw the truck and van. In the blink of an eye, it was over. (How fast?) 75 miles per hour," said Dexter Crumpler, a witness.
10 minutes before this crash, a good nine blocks away, that red truck passed a man along a side street and he says it was barreling towards Springfield Avenue.
"I was walking to work, he was going, could be 100 miles per hour, blowing through red lights, he swerved around a bus. I said this man is going to kill somebody," said Rodney Grant, a Newark resident.
The adult male passenger in the van surely died instantly, possibly on impact.
His dismembered body was recovered from the van and the parking lot.
It was a scene that shook the hearts of dozens of people who ran over, to try to help the drivers of both vehicles.
"I saw the man, he was shaking, just shaking," said Saleemah Battle, a witness.
"At first he was disoriented, they put him in the grass. He was asking for his hat, he told the cops his name," a witness said.
Witnesses say the truck was going the wrong way down a one way street towards Springfield, as the minivan approached the same intersection from the opposite side, and that neither driver saw the other.
