Tow truck crashes into store in West Orange

  Eyewitness NewsWEST ORANGE (WABC) -- Two people suffered injuries when multiple vehicles crashed and a tow truck ended up smashing into a store in West Orange, New Jersey.

The accident happened at Main and Washington Streets in West Orange just after 2:00 p.m. are still being sorted out.

Officials said a tow truck lost its brakes, causing the multi-vehicle accident. The tow truck went out of control and crashed into the store. The driver of the tow truck and one person inside the store suffered injuries, police said. Those injuries were described as minor.

The building was badly damaged. Police say there are obviously structural concerns and the upper floors are residential, which have been evacuated.

They also say if it were not a holiday, this block would have been very crowded with school children.

T-Mobile store allegedly robbed in Linden, New Jersey

  Eyewitness NewsLINDEN, New Jersey (WABC) -- Linden police are investigating an armed robbery of a T-Mobile store on West Edgar Road.

Police say two men, described as being younger, barged into the store at around 4pm.

They were both allegedly wearing hooded sweatshirts pulled tightly around their faces, sunglasses and gloves.

One was armed with a gun.

Police say they tied up three employees and stole an undetermined amount of merchandise and cash.

The suspects fled in a white SUV, possibly a Range Rover, possibly with NY plates.

The employees were not injured.

Man stabbed to death in Guttenberg grocery store

  Eyewitness NewsGUTTENBERG (WABC) -- Police are investigating a deadly stabbing in a Guttenberg grocery store owner in New Jersey Thursday.

Police say 52-year-old Bahar Nesim, of North Bergen, was attacked and stabbed multiple timeS by two armed robbers. Nesim was rushed to Palisades Medical Center at 5 a.m. and pronounced dead 45 minutes later.

Two suspects have been taken into custody. Police say 40-year-old Jose Castaing and his girlfriend, 32-year-old Liz Velez, were arrested minutes after the attack.

It is unclear if Nesim was the owner of the store or an employee.

Guttenberg police were flagged down by a civilian shortly after the incident.

Police say two knives were used in the attack.

It is also unclear how much money or what else was stolen.

The investigation is ongoing.

Suspects sought in violent store robbery

NEWARK (WABC) -- Mike Javier owns Monte's Supermarket on 15th Avenue in Newark, a fixture in his neighborhood for 40 years.

He has 16 security cameras and 3 very scared but lucky employees. At 10:30 Monday morning, two young men wearing hooded sweatshirts under jackets walked in.

They pretended to buy a drink and then a man in black pulls out a silver semi automatic handgun and demands money from the female cashier.

"She drops. As soon as she sees the gun she just drops to the ground," Javier explained.

Another employee puts his hands behind his back.

"He tells him to get down. He does, and then bam, he hits him," Javier said.

The gunman split his head open. Within minutes, it's all over. A puddle of blood on the floor and 3 workers who thought they were going to die.

Manny Santana was one of them.

"I mean you never think it's gonna happen," he said.

The pair of thugs got just 154 dollars, but what they took from Manny and the others cannot be measured.

"Get up every morning and go to work and they come in here to do that. It's not fair," he said.

"I just really want them to get caught cause the kid didn't have to get hit like that. And the girl, she went home and broke down. She has 3 kids," Javier said.

2 men shot inside check cashing store

Two men were shot, one was killed, at a check cashing store in Irvington, New Jersey. (WABC Photo / WABC)

  Jennifer Matarese, Eyewitness NewsIRVINGTON, N.J. (WABC) -- Two men were shot inside of a check cashing store in Irvington, New Jersey.

It happened at Unitransfer Check Cashing on Springfield Avenue around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Both victims were transported to University Hospital, where one of the victims Daniel Joseph, 21, of Irvington was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The second victim who is unidentified is currently in surgery.

Police say so far they believe at least one of the victim's was targeted.

The investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force and the Irvington Police Department.

Store owner shot and killed during robbery

It happened around 6 p.m. at the JNC Mini Market located at 346 14th Avenue corner of South 18th.

When Newark Police arrived, they found 37-year-old Miguel Torres shot inside the store.

He was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Homicide investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force and the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and investigators are currently viewing surveillance footage from around the location and other leads at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Newark Police.

Police release photos of Newark store shooting suspect

Deer smashes through Goodwill store

  John Antalek, Eyewitness NewsWOODBURY HEIGHTS, N.J. (WABC) -- A deer's unexpected entrance at a store in New Jersey is a smash hit on surveillance video.

Several deer were spotted running across a parking lot in Woodbury Heights last Saturday, when one of the deer suddenly veered towards a Goodwill Store and smashed through the front door.

Uninjured, the deer ran around the store for a few minutes, then took off out the smashed door.

Masked man robs Old Bridge jewelry store

  Andy Field, Eyewitness NewsOLD BRIDGE, N.J. (WABC) -- A geezer bandit caught on camera robbing a jewelry store may be much younger than he appears.

The suspect walked into a jewelry store along Route 9 in Old Bridge, New Jersey, wearing a rather distinctive disguise.

The robber knew what he wanted as security cameras recorded him rushing into the counter.

He drew a gun and ordering one clerk to the floor and then demanded another fill a bag as he meticulously selected various rings and bracelets.

"He came right in knew what he was doing, he walked in approached both employees, he had one employee get down, the second employee, he had him take him around, he pointed at the jewelry he wanted, they provided the jewelry," said Captain Robert Weiss, Jr., Old Bridge Township Police.

The Halloween masked man robbed Corbo Jewelers about 5 Tuesday afternoon at the Shoppes of Old Bridge along Highway 9.

The workers inside were terrified on what was a slow post Christmas sales day.

"The employees at the store were pretty shook up, but physically everyone was unharmed, he didn't hurt anybody, he pointed the weapon at them and left the store," Weiss said.

Old Bridge Township Police don't have much to go on but they're hoping someone recognizes something in the security tapes and helps find the thief.

"He's got a mask, he's got a hooded sweatshirt, he's a bit stocky, about 5'10", he's wearing an overcoat that makes him even look a bit larger," Weiss said.

Grocery store owner shot dead in Plainfield

  Eyewitness NewsPLAINFIELD (WABC) -- Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a grocery store owner in Plainfield.

The shooting happened just after 4:00 Saturday afternoon at the Leaty grocery store on East 6th Street.

Police found two people shot at the store.

One was the store owner, 47-year old Eduardo Leaty. The other was a person who worked at the store.

Leaty was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police say the wounded store worker is expected to survive.
