Smoke forces Newark flight to make emergency landing

  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK -- A Scandinavian Airlines Airbus 330 has been diverted to Bangor International Airport because its cockpit filled with smoke. It landed safely.

The airplane, which had 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board, was enroute from Newark to Copenhagen, Denmark, when it was diverted to Bangor on Wednesday. It landed shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Tony Caruso, the airport's interim director, says the passengers and crew have been checked for smoke inhalation but that he has not heard of any injuries.

Caruso tells The Bangor Daily News that the flight has been canceled and that airport officials are helping the passengers find accomodations.

Jet from NJ makes emergency landing in Louisville

  Eyewitness NewsLOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A commercial jet has made a precautionary emergency landing at Louisville International Airport.

Jim Faulkner, a spokesman for American Airlines, said a cockpit indicator showed a fuel transfer problem Monday afternoon so the plane landed as a precaution. No one was injured.

American Airlines flight 2559 with 142 passengers and a crew of five reported the emergency around 4:50 p.m. The MD-80 aircraft landed safely just after 5 p.m, and continued on later to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. .

Emergency landing at Newark Liberty

  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK (WABC) -- There were some tense moments at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday.

Continental Flight 85 from Tel Aviv to Newark had to make an emergency landing after a heat indicator light went off in the cargo bin.

The Boeing 777 had 290 people on board.

It landed safely at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Sources say two people complained of breathing difficulty after insulation blew into the passenger cabin.

One person was transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth.

An investigation is underway.
