Eyewitness NewsFLANDERS (WABC) -- An assistant fire chief in New Jersey died after responding to an emergency call.
Officials say 42-year-old Thomas Shields was the assistant chief of the Flanders Fire Department.
He had responded to a call of a child suffering from heat stroke Tuesday.
After he returned to the firehouse, Shields complained he didn't feel well and went home.Soon after, his wife called for an ambulance. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
There is no word yet on the cause of death.
