Land mines found in woman's luggage at Newark Airport

  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK -- A type of explosive widely used during the Vietnam War was found in luggage at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Officials say three Claymore mine casings were found in a New Jersey woman's luggage as she passed through security at Terminal C on Tuesday morning.

The Transportation Security Administration says two of the three casings were packed with shrapnel but none featured explosives or detonators.

The woman told security officials she was attending explosives demonstration. She was permitted to re-book her flight to San Francisco and continue her trip without the weapons.

Claymore mines are land mines that discharge steel fragments.

Estranged husband arrested in NJ woman's death

  Jennifer Matarese, Eyewitness NewsMONTCLAIR, N.J. (WABC) -- Police have arrested the estranged husband of a woman found dead Monday in Montclair, New Jersey, and charged him with murder.

Police say 42-year-old Khalid Khan was arrested Monday night in the murder of 31-year-old Shazina Khan.

Authorities say there was a history of prior domestic complaints, and they are investigating whether a restraining order was in place.

The couple had been separated since 2009.

"I want to reassure the residents of Montclair this is a targeted incident," Montclair Police Chief David Sabagh said. "I would also like to commend the Montclair Police and the Homicide Task Force for the swift arrest."

Bail for Khan was set at $1.5 million.

The defendant is originally from Kenya.

In addition to murder, Khan is charged with weapons offenses.

Missing NJ woman's body found; Husband charged

  Eyewitness NewsABERDEEN -- Monmouth County prosecutors say the body of a missing mother of two small boys has been found buried off the Garden State Parkway, and they've charged her estranged husband with murder.

Bail for 31-year-old Oscar Prior-Ramirez of Eatontown was set at $1.5 million. He's been hospitalized for undisclosed reasons since 26-year-old Viridiana Beltran Gomez went missing last month, and it's not clear if he's retained a lawyer.

Beltran-Gomez's body was found late Saturday afternoon, buried about 100 feet off the roadway near milemarker 119 in Aberdeen.

County prosecutor Peter Warshaw says investigators believe Beltran-Gomez died May 13, the day after she was last seen leaving her job at a Red Bank restaurant, but it's not clear how she was killed.

An autopsy was planned for Sunday.

Woman's cause of death changed from accident to homicide

  Eyewitness NewsJERSEY CITY (WABC) -- The death of a Jersey City woman who appeared to have died from a fall in front of her home has now been ruled a homicide.

Two people are charged with felony murder and a third person is being sought.

Judith Bobrow, 66, was found on the evening of October 11, 2010 lying face down in front of the porch of her home at 191 Union Street in Jersey City.

She was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The medical examiner ruled her death accidental.

During the course of a separate, unrelated homicide investigation, the victim's debit card was found in possession of 20-year-old Antonio Nash-Johnson, the third suspect who is still on the loose.

As a result, Bobrow's case was reopened, and information led investigators to the two suspects. Donte Carlisle and Kenneth Miller were interviewed and, according to the complaint, made statements implicating each other in the robbery.

The new information was given to the medical examiner and Bobrow's death was changed to a homicide.

She died of blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, according to the medical examiner's officer. It's believed she was knocked to the ground, held down and assaulted and that's what caused her death.

The prosecutor says that based on the position of the victim's body in relation to the front stairs and the way she was found, her injuries could have been consistent with a fall. There were no witnesses to the assault.

Carlisle and Miller, already in custody on unrelated charges, now face felony murder charges.

Antonio Nash-Johnson of Forest Avenue in Jersey City is being sought in connection with her robbery and death.
