Soldier from NJ killed in Afghanistan

  Eyewitness NewsNEW JERSEY -- Relatives of a 28-year-old soldier from Lakehurst, New Jersey say he has been killed in an attack by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan.

The family of Sgt. Jonathan Gollnitz says they were notified Wednesday that the Fredonia, NY native had been killed.

The Pentagon hasn't released information on his death yet, but NATO officials in Afghanistan say that two service members in the U.S.-led coalition were killed in a suicide attack Wednesday during a patrol in an eastern province.

Gollnitz enlisted in the Navy after graduating from a private high school in the Jamestown area in 2003.

After five years in the Navy, he joined the Army. He was deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

New Jersey soldier killed in combat in Afghanistan

  Eyewitness NewsJERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The Defense Department says a 22-year-old soldier from northern New Jersey was killed when his unit was attacked last weekend by enemy forces in Afghanistan.

Army Pfc. Leroy Deronde II and a second soldier from Denver were killed in the May 27 attack in the Chak-E Warkdak District.

The deaths were announced Saturday afternoon, but further details were not disclosed.

Officials say both soldiers were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment. 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss in Texas.

Flags at half-staff for fallen soldier from New Jersey

  Eyewitness NewsNEW JERSEY (WABC) -- Flags are flying at half-staff across New Jersey Thursday to remember a fallen U.S. Army soldier.

Sergeant Shauna Brocklebank Adams was killed during a training exercise in South Korea in March.

Adams grew up in Long Branch and was a 2008 graduate of Montclair State University.

She married her husband, Kyle, the day after Valentine's Day. He is currently serving in Afghanistan.

Sergeant Adams was 27.

NJ soldier killed in Afghanistan

  Eyewitness NewsBLAIRSTOWN, N.J. -- The Defense Department says a 30-year-old soldier from northwestern New Jersey has died of wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

Army Spc. Ronald H. Wildrick Jr. of Blairstown and a second soldier from California were killed in the attack Sunday in Afghanistan's Kunar province.

The military says Wildrick served with the 25th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team out of the Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

Wildrick's remains are scheduled to arrive Tuesday night at Dover Air Force Base.
