Amtrak problems resolved; normal commute expected

  NEWARK -- Amtrak has resolved signal problems that caused delays for evening commuters on NJ Transit's rail lines into and out of New York City.

An Amtrak spokesman says the signal problems are centered near Rahway. Spokesman Clifford Cole says work crews are on the scene.

Some minor delays continue, but the morning rush hour is expected to be normal.

NJ Transit had cancelled several departures from New York City on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and was cross-honoring bus and train tickets on PATH trains between New York and New Jersey.

Raritan Valley Line trains were delayed up to 30 minutes.

I-95 moving after crash snarls morning commute

A tractor-trailer carrying coffee beans overturned and caught fire on the New Jersey Turnpike early Wednesday.

  Eyewitness NewsNEW JERSEY (WABC) -- A tractor-trailer carrying coffee beans overturned and caught fire on the New Jersey Turnpike early Wednesday.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m. in the northbound express lanes at the interchange with Route 80. The crash created heavy delays in getting to the George Washington Bridge.

Two minor injuries were reported.

All traffic was diverted to the local lanes and the lower level of the bridge, where another accident was reported around 6:30 a.m. The truck was moved off the road and the lanes reopened around 7:15 a.m., but major delays plagued the morning commute.

The pair of accidents created a 1-2 punch that backed up traffic for miles.

Mixed bag of weather affects morning commute

TRENTON, N.J. (WABC) -- Thursday got off to a stormy start before afternoon sunshine moves in. The Tri-State area faced a mixed bag of wet and windy weather early in the day.

Snow covered New York's capital city overnight, and scattered power outages were being reported across our area.

At its peak, more than 7,000 customers were without power on Long Island. About 4,000 were reported in New Jersey, and Connecticut had almost 19,000 outages statewide.

Hours of drizzling rain across the area are making for a soggy morning commute, and some areas are seeing the first snow flurries since the October nor'easter that caused millions of dollars in damage.

Flooding has closed some sections of Westchester County parkways. Parts of the Saw Mill River, Bronx River and Hutchinson River parkways were closed during the Thursday morning rush hour.

Thankfully, crews are up and ready for action, plowing and salting where necessary.

In Sussex County, New Jersey, the early season storm gave crews a head start on winter preps.

On Long Island, pounding rain and high winds knocked down some trees and power lines. Strong winds also damaged property in Deer Park and East Patchogue.

Flooding forced police to close roads in Union County and Hoboken in New Jersey.

Crews are working to restore electricity across the area.

Bus collision snarls Lincoln Tunnel for morning commute

  Eyewitness NewsWEEHAWKEN (WABC) -- A bus collision just outside the Lincoln Tunnel in Weehawken closed the tunnel to New Jersey-bound cars for much of the morning commute.

The privately-operated bus collided with a car in the bus lane of the westbound helix just before 8 a.m.

The driver of the car was injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

Four people on the bus were taken to Palisades Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The crash closed the express bus lane for the morning commute.

Only buses were allowed into the outbound tunnel, and they were running with 45 to 60 minute delays. Other buses were diverted to the Secaucus Junction Station.

Bus service to and from the George Washington Bridge Terminal was also subject to 20-minute delays.

Outbound cars were diverted to the Holland Tunnel and George Washington Bridge.

NJ Transit trains were also cross-honoring bus tickets and passes to and from New York Penn Station.
