Seaside Heights beaches closed after water rescues

AP  Eyewitness NewsSEASIDE HEIGHTS -- Forecasters are predicting a high risk for rip currents along the New Jersey coast Monday.

Wave heights of 3 to 5 feet are possible as Tropical Storm Leslie continues to churn the ocean.

Seaside Heights police closed the beaches on Sunday evening after two water rescues.

Police Detective Steve Korman tells the Asbury Park Press an 18-year-old Basking Ridge man and a 21-year-old man from Far Hills were pulled from the surf after they got caught in a rip current.

A 28-year-old woman from New Rochelle, N.Y., and a 30-year-old woman from Albany, N.Y., managed to reach shore after they were gripped by a rip current three hours later.

NJ airport terminal closed over suspicious package

AP  Eyewitness NewsNEWARK, N.J. -- A terminal at New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport has been briefly evacuated by authorities investigating a suspicious package.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokeswoman Sara Beth Joren says Terminal A was evacuated for about an hour Wednesday evening.

It's unknown if flights were delayed or canceled because of the shutdown.

Such security shutdowns at the airport are fairly common.

A security checkpoint was briefly closed last month after a Transportation Security Administration officer saw a water bottle in a carry-on bag but the wrong bag was removed for inspection. A checkpoint also briefly closed in February when an improperly screened passenger entered a secure area.

Part of a terminal briefly closed in December when a computer monitor checked as baggage caused a security scare.
